Take this scenario:
A nice Chinese Gentleman moves in right next to you. Other than a funny look he gives toward the cross you are wearing around your neck, he seems like an ideal neighbor. He is courteous when you occasionally pass him, but he avoids eye contact.
Through his sliding glass door that opens into his living room you see him all the time working on a high-end laptop. You figure he must have a high-tech job or a home-based business he runs through the Internet.
He just fits into the neighborhood, especially tech-savvy Silicon Valley where people of all the different countries of origin gather. You respect his privacy and don’t even notice that over a period of a month, this loner has developed a lot of friends.
Little do you know that Robert Wong is not his real name despite what his mailbox says or what his friends call him. You do not even know that he has found and regularly attends a Radical Islamic Mosque where hate against Christians and Jews is espoused with regularity.
You do not even suspect that you sweet neighbor would like to take a large kitchen knife and slowly cut through your neck until he is holding your head swinging by its hair. You don’t even suspect there is murder lurking behind his lovable eyes.
You are not aware that he has been setting up web sites to recruit terrorists destined to create havoc and kill Americans. He is setting up a terrorist cell right next door to you and you are oblivious to his illegal actions.
Do you think this sounds like a good thriller novel? It sure sounds like a fine piece of literature, but it is real, not fiction.
Would you believe that the United States government (i.e. your tax dollars) has paid for a new identity that is much more secure than the famed Witness Protection Services that hides mob informants? Would you also believe that your tax dollars are paying for this person’s rent and even television, cable and internet access?
Would you believe that the high-end laptop was given to him by the government and you paid to train him how to use it?
Would you believe that our government offered to fly him back to China, but the Chinese government refused to accept their own citizen being returned?
You had better believe all of the above as there is a group of enemy combatant detainees that happen to be Chinese Muslim terrorists that were picked up on the battlefield. This group currently resides at Club Gitmo in the US military base in Cuba.
Some are presently being trained for release in the United States.
