GOP Representative Christopher Lee sets world record for fastest resignation after exposure

Republican Representative Christopher Lee is now the World Record holder of “The Quickest Congressional Resignation” with a time clocked at 3 hours.

Maureen O’Connor of the Gawker gossip web site exposed Chris’s naked chest picture by publishing it for the world to see.  Just three hours later, Representative Lee held a press conference and resigned “effective immediately.”

There is no excuse for infidelity or in this case even an appearance of infidelity, among our elected officials.  Since they are tasked at representing the people, they must be held to a higher standard.

When they break a trust, they must be replaced as the trust is gone.

Christopher Lee realized this only after the pictures were published.  He did do the right thing by resigning, as he broke God’s law by flirting and committing adultery in his mind, and in doing so, broke our trust.

In the recent past, politicians of the liberal persuasion have been given a pass by the media.  Clinton should have resigned after he broke the sacred vows of his marriage.  Senator Robert Carlyle Byrd should have resigned after he was caught writing a letter of support for the Ku Klux Klan who have a history of killing people just because of their color.

We need to hold our representatives’ feet to the proverbial fire.  When they break our trust by infidelity or any other means, we need to demand immediate resignation of any elected official from the President of the United States, to congress, right on down to the state and local officials.

We can no longer give a pass to the liberal dalliances because it is their “private life.”  Once an official has taken the oath, all expectations of privacy from their sins are given up.  It’s the price of the office.

Here is the statement of resignation from Chris Lee’s congressional web page:

Statement from Congressman Chris Lee (NY-26)

Wednesday February 09, 2011

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness.

“The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.”
