Solar energy company Solyndra LLC was visited by President Obama during a recent trip in May to California.  Obama praised the solar industry while he spent everyone else’s carbon credits for his trip.

Today, at 5 am it gathered night shift employees for an emergency meeting and had them shut down all equipment.  The employees were told Solyndra was out of money and was going to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The taxpayers (that means you and I) recently spent $500 million to guarantee a loan for Solyndra.  This is in addition to the $1 billion in private investments.

So $1.5 billion later Solyndra is shutting down operations and locking its employees out of its Fremont, California plant.  This will also hurt Fremont’s financial situation as there are a lot of local businesses that depend on Solyndra employees.

We are still being bombarded with requests to reduce populations by not being greedy and not having more than one child.  Obama’s socialized health care bill, if adopted, will require doctors to talk to parents and perspective parents to “increase the time between pregnancies” – in other words – reduce the number of children.  If Obamacare is passed, Jon and Kate will be in more trouble than they are now. I was thinking (and that can be quite dangerous in certain situations) of what to write for my 500^th post at Liberal Fair.

I like racing and thought about the Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway, the Indianapolis 500, and from my home state, the Pennsylvania 500.  If I wrote a post on these races, I would probably get excited and breathe out more carbon dioxide than I usually do, so the races were eliminated.

For a more sedate and less carbon-producing items, I thought about playing 500, visiting memory lane by looking at an old Commodore Amiga 500 computer, or perusing the list of top 500 Green Supercomputers, but I have enough computers in my life and I like Spades, Hearts, Canasta and double-deck Pinochle a lot more. So since the military needed to hit liberals, errr… enemy targets, develop technology using the brightest minds that our colleges (not liberal at that time) possessed.  They also needed secure communications over long distances.  Private industry took that technology and we wind up taking that large house of a computer, shrinking it and making it billions of times more powerful and a company named Apple can sell the iPhone for a few hundred dollars. Our lives have been irreparably changed by military technology.  Just take your phone/pda/Blackberry/iPhone.  You are bound to answer it and it can wind up running your life, and it all started out with the military’s need to be able to accurately hit a target with their big artillery.
